Coyotes in the Arroyo Suburb

From an article yesterday's Washington Post Magazine on the movement of coyotes into the metro area: " 'It's crazy! These are the most expensive homes in Rockville, and we're like hostages!' "

Personally, I've only had a couple sightings (or even hearings) here, but from my limted experience, it seems that Santa Fe residents somehow manage to avoid coyote hostage situations.

Well, I don't know if this is any indication of the relative population distribution of coyotes, but the only one I saw in over 3,000 miles last week between Minnesota and Santa Fe just happened to be in Nebraska.

Maybe I missed the media coverage of the hostage situation in North Platte...

Held "hostage" by coyotes? All the ones I've seen here in Arizona have been very skittish. They shy away from people and they are not as big as most standard-sized dogs. Uma (who's on the small side for a Weimaraner) could easily stand her gound with one if she had to. Cats and little yippy lap dogs need only fear the coyotes. Sounds like another case of ignorant hyperbolic humans if you ask me...
