After a little poking around I found this post on What's That Bug? Apparently that’s a female Megarhyssa macrurus, also known as a “stump stabber.” She looks a little ratty, compared to the photos.
Geez...what's the *scale* on this creature? It would be useful to see it displayed next to a person...but it seems like the person taking the photo didn't want to get too close... :-)

If that's a female...imagine what the hulking MALE -- directly over the photographer's head protecting his delicate mate -- looks like!
Or...more likely, the male was an evening snack for the mate...
I thought me and Liz were bad using facetime to talk to each other in the same house. Going through blog posts even worse...
